Apple Is Releasing New iPhone In June

Apple's newest creation the iPhone promises to take small hand held digital devices to the next level. It is more than a phone, but rather a high tech multi-functional device that allows you to make phone calls, text message, surf the Internet, take pictures, check Email, watch video, and best of all includes a video iPod. Not only that it takes user-friendly a step further with a few smarter features such as the touch pad screen that works with the touch of your finger, and nothing else! It has special sensors that know when a larger flat object such as your face is pressing against the phone, or if it is a smaller object such as a human finger.

The iPhone is not even on sale yet, as it is set to be released with two year contracts for service with carriers such as Cingular, the new AT&T. Apple has decided to go with GSM technology for the iPhone. Phones sold by AT&T as well as T-Mobile come with the SIM card disabled, effectively locking them to the network. It is possible to unlock these phones and is also legal to do so in America.

No one really knew exactly how many features the new iPhone would have, and many are satisfied with what they are hearing. The iPhone is has a liquid filled touch screen, along with Wi-fi capabilities. It is about time that Apple extended their technology to the popular and ever growing mobile phone industry. Similar to the iPod, the iPhone won't have a replaceable battery, and is also designed to have a closed system.

Over the past few years Apple has basically dominated the MP3 scene with their iPod, so it only makes sense to include this popular device in their iPhone attracting even more users. Since the time the iPod was released it has evolved into a small digital device capable of playing and storing many full length movies and music. The iPod also has thousands of useful accessories that are available online and in retail stores, as well as iTunes for music. It will only be a matter of time before there are this many accessories for the iPhone, but I'm sure you can get basic protective accessories when you purchase your phone.

The Apple iPhone will also have the capability of running Google maps, conference calling, text, as well as other multimedia messaging. The iPhone also has Bluetooth as well as WiFi connectivity, Email software, and web browser. The coolest and most unique feature about the iPhone is that there no key pad or stylus needed. Instead there is a 3.5 inch square touch pad that is sensitive to the touch of your finger. When you want to type out an Email, text message, or document you can select the virtual keypad for easier typing.

You can purchase your own iPhone after it is released in June of this year. The price for a 4GB is $499 and for double the memory at 8GB it will run you $599, the much better deal. Over time the price will decrease and the amount of space will increase. It is also likely that other companies are scrambling to come up with their own versions of this awesome new mobile device.

Cell Phone Number Portability Explained

So what exactly is cell phone number portability (officially called Wireless Local Number Portability or Wireless LPN)?

Cell Phone Number Portability is an option that a customer has where they can either keep their same cell phone number when changing from one cell phone carrier to another or get a new cell phone number. This only applies when moving within the metropolitan area. If your are moving from state to state or city to city the Wireless LPN does not apply. However some cell phone providers will port your same cell phone number when moving from state to state. Some cell phone providers will also charge a small amount to port your number from your old provider while most providers will provide this service for free. You will have to check with your new cell phone provider if there is a cost for the cell phone number portability. If you do decide to port your number it should only take a few hours for your new cell phone carrier to port your number from your old cell phone provider. It is usually a very seamless process. Some cell phone carriers will also port a land line phone number to your cell phone.

Back in the old days when you changed your cell phone carrier you also HAD to get a new cell phone number. There was not an option to keep your same phone number. This was a big inconvenience for consumers. The new Wireless Local Number Portability is a great feature that should be taken advantage of. Now when you change cell phone providers you don't have to give your new cell phone number out to all of your friends and family. It is such a hassle first to remember to tell all of your friends and family that you have a new phone number and second actually letting everybody know your new number. What if you forget to tell some of your friends and family? Then they will never know your new phone number and will not be able to get a hold of you. That's why this new cell phone number portability is so great. You will never have to worry about telling your friends and family about your new number. They will already have your cell phone number.

1.3 MegaPixel Camera Phones and the Dim-Witted North American Cell Phone Industry

About three years ago, I remember getting my hands on my first 1.3mp camera phone. It was such a nice jump up from the 0.3mp phone. Yes, people thought I was cool for having one (or I thought I was cool).

However, if you were to walk into any wireless carrier's store TODAY (April 2007), you would be hard-pressed to find anything higher than a 1.3mp phone. Sure, you will only now start to find some 2mp phones, and if you try real hard, you might find a Sony Ericsson phone that is up to 3.2mp.

But what is the deal with this old technology? Why is it still around after almost 3 years? Who are the brainless people in this scenario, the mobile providers or the manufacturers?

Did you know that in Japan, you can get a 10mp camera phone? You cannot even get that as a camera in North America! I have heard at least one wireless provider say that "the North American market does not demand higher megapixel camera phones".

Can you believe that drivel? Maybe the providers need to hold a few more focus groups and get their facts straight. I, for one, continuously put off buying the latest phone models these days because I am waiting for a good camera. How many other people out there are like that?

Do you even use the camera in your phone? I bet you do not. The number one reason you do not use your camera phone is likely because the picture quality is terrible. You probably thought you would use it all the time. Think of all those impromptu photo ops out there. Alas, they are not to be. When you go on a family outing this summer, you will grab your phone AND...your camera.

Yes, people still use two devices. They will continue to do so until the all-knowing marketing executives at the wireless providers will get it through their heads that North American consumers WILL buy the nicer camera phones. In fact, the 1.3mp phones should all be stricken from our memories...from our vocabularies...from the very face of the earth. They are a blithe on our society; an international embarrassment.

They are like the 56k modem that will not go away and no one knows why they are still being sold. This "manifesto" you are reading might be a little late, I admit. The phones in question are indeed trending towards better products; we are finally coming out of a period of technological darkness.

Let us hope that the marketing departments in the North American wireless companies, as well as the product development departments within the wireless phone manufacturers never again hold us back from the quality we deserve.

Should There Be A Cell Phone Directory?

The decision to have U.S. Free Cell Phone Directory is a very touchy and controversial topic. While there are many against a free cell phone directory there are also many supporters in favor of a U.S. cell phone directory. With the exponential growth and popularity of cell phones it is going to become more and more difficult to keep track of family and friends cell phone numbers.

Of course most cell phones have a built in phone book to store and find personal cell numbers but there comes a time when a free cell phone directory would come in handy. Say you need to get a hold of a neighbor, or your child's friend, or your child's friends parents, or a co-worker. Times like this is when it would nice to have a free cell phone directory where you could trace cell phone numbers free. Also, how many times have you received a phone call from a number that you didn't know? This has happens all the time and unless you have the number in your cell phone you more then likely will not know who is calling you. This is when a free reverse cell phone directory would come in handy. A reverse cell phone directory is a directory where you enter the cell phone number in the database and it tells you the name associated with that cell phone number.

Why the opponents oppose a free cell phone directory.
They don't want the public to have access to their cell phone numbers. They want their cell numbers and related information to remain private.

They are afraid that telemarketers will get a hold of there cell numbers from the free cell phone directory. This is a major concern for cell phone subscribers as most know who annoying telemarketers can be.

The fear of other personal information being available to the public. If cell phone numbers are to be made public many of opponents believe that other personal information will also become public.
Why the supporters see a need for a free cell phone directory.
Many supporters believe that more and more people are using there cell phones as there primary home phone. As this trend increases it will become more difficult to find family and friends cell phone numbers. Just as there are the local phone books for landline phones they believe there should also be a free cell phone directory.

They see a great need for a free reverse cell phone directory. For all of those unknown phone numbers we get a free reverse cell phone directory would be great so we could find out who is calling us.

People keep changing their cell numbers and it is hard to keep track of all of the cell phone number changes. Even though it is now possible to keep your cell phone number no matter what carrier you are with people are still change their cell phone numbers to get a local phone number.

GPS Cell Phone

The Global Positioning System (GPS) was funded, developed and controlled by the US Department of Defense. Since the late seventies, GPS has become an important aid to navigation around the world. Initially designed for the US military, GPS became publicly available years later and it is now considered an important feature in lots of consumer products.

How does GPS work? Well, basically there are three elements that make everything work: satellites, earth monitoring stations and receivers (ex: cell phone, telefone celular). GPS provides specially coded satellite signals that can be processed in a GPS receiver, enabling the receiver to compute position, velocity and time.

Today, most cell phones (telefone celular) are not limited to carry on just a conversation. Features like mp3 player, digital camera and video camera have all become standards in the latest cell phone models. It is expected that the GPS feature will soon be added to this list, and it will offer the capability of tracking any cell phone user.

The capability of tracking a cell phone user becomes important in emergency situations, like a car accident, thru the use of 911 emergency phone call, where every minute may be a matter of life or death. In situation like this, the GPS system may pinpoint the exact location of the road accident, enabling emergency services to be quickly dispatched.

It is important to mention that so far most GPS system in cell phone (telefone celular) is restricted to tracking information only. However, one can have navigational capability thru the use of full screen cell phone/PDA combos with map displays and other cellular phone accessories, and third party paid services. If one does not want to sign up for a monthly paid subscription service, he can make use of one-time-paid-only software programs that will enable some of the navigational capabilities.

Although there are many benefits in using GPS cell phones (telefone celular), there are some people who are concerned about the violation of personal privacy. Since the US Congress has not authorized location tracking without actual evidence of wrongdoing, there have been court hearings which have not approved the requests of government agencies in obtaining the cell phone GPS tracking information for suspects or ordinary citizens.

This privacy matter has made some progress towards the cell phone user`s rights, since there are some laws that have been passed which guarantees that GPS cell phone users will have some protection from the release of the tracking information, with the exception of 911 emergency cell phone calls (telefone celular). It is expected that these laws will guarantee that the benefits of GPS in cell phones will be enjoyed by everyone without infringing anybody`s privacy.

Sometimes when there is a technological innovation, there are also some concerns about privacy or some rights infringements. But no matter how much of a concern this is, it seems that a compromise will always have to be reached, so that new technologies will take their places in everyone`s lives. After all, we all live in a globalized consumer world. By the way, have you already got your GPS cell phone?
